Beyond the Basics

If you are a more experienced photographer with a reasonable knowledge of photography, but feel like you could be doing more with your camera then "Beyond the Basics" is probably for you. It is an intermediate/advanced level course which which covers everything on the Beyond the Quick Start session, but also looks at:

A much more in depth look at your camera and its controls and features. If there are any buttons or menu items on your camera that you are unsure of, we can show you what they do, and explain when and how to use them. Though we are familiar with most popular makes of camera it is useful, but not essential, if you bring your instruction manual with you.

The basics of exposure, the elements that make it up and how they are related.

Different exposure modes and when to use them, including use of manual exposure. Cameras are usually quite good at handling what would be termed "standard" situations whilst on automatic. In difficult conditions, when you know what you are doing, use of manual exposure is much easier and likely to give better results.

Basics of flash photography indoors and outdoors.

Advanced composition techniques…. Things to look for when composing a picture to make it really stand out as a great photograph.

Available as a full or half day course with an enjoyable and informal mixture of classroom and out and about practical, and at looking pictures taken throughout the day.

Advanced Photography

If you are an experienced photographer with a good knowledge of photography, but would like to extend your knowledge even further then "Advanced Photography" may be for you. With a full understanding of everything taught on this course you should due able to handle virtually any subject or situation. It is an advanced level course which looks at:

A total familiarisation with your camera and its controls and features. How to assess what settings to use in a situation, and quickly get set up to take the shot. Though we are familiar with most popular makes of camera it is useful, but not essential, if you bring your instruction manual with you.

Different focus modes. Ever tried taking a shot of a moving subject and the shutter just will not fire? We can explain how to overcome this and how to take pictures of moving subjects with much greater success.

The elements of exposure, how they are related, and how to use them to to achieve different creative effects.

Different exposure modes and when to use them, including use of manual exposure to overcome difficult conditions.

In-depth flash photography including fill-in flash and use of bounce flash.

Have a go with pro cameras and lenses. If you are thinking of upgrading your camera and would like to have a go with some serious kit to see if it will make a difference, then we have some of the latest professional Nikon cameras. lenses and flashes that you can have a go with.
